Day 2

The Three-Breath Pause

"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."Proverbs 4:23

Reading

Today the focus is frequency, not depth. You are not trying to do the 3-Breath Pause well. You are trying to do it often.

Most people, in their first week, run the pause two or three times and assume that is enough. It is not. The skill installs only by repetition. Aim for five today. Some will be perfect. Most will be clumsy. The clumsy ones still count — they are training reps.

Each pause is ten seconds. You can do it at a red light. You can do it before opening an email. You can do it the moment your child interrupts you for the fourth time. The point is to wear the practice into your day like a groove until it begins firing on its own.

Today's focus

Run the 3-Breath Pause five times today. Quality is not the goal yet. Quantity is.

Today's practice

Set three phone alarms for today — one mid-morning, one early afternoon, one before dinner. Title them 3BP. When each fires, do the pause wherever you are. Two more naturally during the day brings you to five.

Where was the pause hardest today? Where was it easiest? What does that tell you about which moments your inner life needs the most watching?
